US Secretary of State confirms his country's understanding of the extension of Iraq's authority over all its territory

Baghdad, Oct. 27 (Petra) - US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on Friday understood his country to impose the federal authority of Iraq in the province of Kirkuk and the rest of northern Iraq.

The office of Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said in a statement that the latter received a telephone call Friday from US Secretary of State Rex Tilerson, during which he discussed the developments of military operations to liberate the existing and the redeployment of federal forces in Kirkuk and other areas and political and security conditions.

Tillerson stressed the position of his country, which supports the unity of Iraq and its understanding to impose federal authority in the province of Kirkuk and other areas in northern Iraq, calling for the need for cooperation of the province with the Baghdad government and emphasize dialogue within the framework of the Iraqi constitution.

For his part, Abadi stressed that priority remains for the battle of salvation and the liberation of the last bastions of terrorism in western Iraq. Abadi said during the phone call that the Iraqi government is determined to implement the law and the Constitution in all regions of the country and the Kurdistan region to commit to hand over border crossings and airports to the federal authority and the process of redeployment and the imposition of federal authority legal and constitutional action.
