MP: Trump travel ban decision in the interest of Iraqis

Member of Parliament Mithal al-Alusi said that US President Donald Trump's decision to ban the citizens of seven countries including Iraq from entering the US as a great decision that is in the interest of Iraqi citizens and state.

In statements on Tuesday, Alusi said the decision targets political figures and businessmen not the Iraqi people.

He added that Trump considers Iraqi politicians and businessmen, including himself, as corrupted and involved in various crimes including homicide and forgery.

Alusi also said that Trump's decision aims to press on those Iraqi figures in order to work on establishing a strong and respectable state.

Earlier, Trump had halted the issuing of visas to nationals of seven mainly Muslim countries, including Syria, Iran, Iraq, Yemen, and Libya, for three months.

Trump said the measures were part of new measures to keep radical terrorists out of the US.

Under Trump's wide-ranging executive order, all refugee admissions have been suspended for four months.
