An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 shook parts of Taiwan on Tuesday and was felt in the capital, Taipei, residents and officials said, but there were no immediate reports of damage.
The U.S. Geological Survey originally recorded the quake, centered about 110 km (70 miles) northeast of Taipei, with a magnitude of 6.4. Taiwan’s Central Weather Bureau put the magnitude at 7.2. – reuters

Taipei, May 31 (CNA) A magnitude 7.2 earthquake occurred 73.1 kilometers northeast of Keelung on Tuesday afternoon at 1:23 p.m., jolting much of northern Taiwan, the Central Weather Bureau said.
The earthquake began at sea at a depth of 271.3 kilometers, and was felt most intensely in Yilan County in northeastern Taiwan and parts of Hualien County, which registered 4s on Taiwan’s 0-7 intensity scale.
An intensity of 3 was recorded in parts of Taipei, New Taipei and Taoyuan cities and Hsinchu and Miaoli counties.
