I AM BACK from an involuntary M.I.A
Hi guys!!
Sorry I was missing. We have been without electricity since yesterday due to a car accident taking out a transformer, down the road from us. I have not heard how the car occupants are, but I am praying they are ok.
Without electricity, we had no computer, heat, running water, cooking etc. Man, talk about unexpected camping! But, I AM BACK!! I don't know if that is GOOD or BAD LOLOL. I hope everything went smoothly while I was gone.
I am going to peruse the forum and see what has transpired.

Re: I AM BACK from an involuntary M.I.A
Have any of you noticed how DARK and QUIET a house becomes when there is no electricity? Seriously, when it came back on after almost 24 hours of not being on, the whole house seems so noisy now. The hum of the refrigerator, the fish tank, the computers. the DVR etc.... You don't realize how loud a house is until it is totally unplugged. And DARK! Stubbed my toe so many times on things left around the house. Things you normally walk around when you can see them. It is a lesson on PICKING UP after yourself.
And let's not forget COLD! Dang, we had a sudden snow storm yesterday (thus the slippery roads and accident) and the temp dropped fast in the house. Ya, we were not prepared. We had actually used the last of our chopped wood for the fire place, a month ago. So, layering of clothes it was! Ahhh reminded me of the good old days of being a kid when my parents would keep the temp down real low to CONSERVE energy with Pres Nixon's Conserve Energy Campaign.
It was so cold, the cats kept trying to sleep on me to keep warm last night

I hear you on that ... been there for several days after an ice storm. At least we have a gas range, still trying to figure out the emergency heat thing, Think the least expensive answer is going to be a genset and transfer switch which would allow us to run the gas furnace that is actually our backup heat and hopefully, our water pump.
