I don't remember the exact plane, but it was a boeing, smaller model, back in the 70's or 80's and I was a passenger, and the damn thing took off and then suddenly started climbing at, at least, a 70 degree angle, and it was exhilaring to being looking back at earth at that angle. Also, when I was stationed at Amarillo, advanced Air Force training base, we used to watch B-58's do the same thing. It's more interesting than watching a rocket go straight up.

Combat takeoffs and landing are quick and steep, they are safer, especially from missile attacks, but passengers don't generally like them. From what I understand, El-Al pilots use them routinely, at least in Israel.
