No Rate Change

Well with our boys TerryK , Mtn Goat and others all proclaiming that the dinar has changed value in Iraq, I checked the sites we have purchased from just to see. Yep, you guessed it, they are all still buying and selling at the same rates they have been for months. ($860/$1050) Seeing as how they are dealing with this daily, buying from inside Iraq, and have no doubt numerous contacts there, I find it hard to believe they would continue to sell essentially at a loss if the RV HAD occurred.

Well, my friend in Iraq has "little" news.  He says business there (except for the bombings) is pretty much the same here - swiping cards and paying cash.  There are "lower" denominations than what I asked about - he says the merchants and people keep them amongst themselves and they are very much prevalent at this time of year because of the custom of "giving" to those who don't.  The denominations are the ones seen on the CBI site "not in circulation" because the "banks" don't stock them.  Merchants offer "spoiling or old" goods at "less per" or "better deal" (not sure what he meant by that) but his example is    

New fruit 1210 dinar per weight
Old fruit  1195 dinar per weight.

They also offer discount for USD - but speak poorly of America often.

Sounds like "sale price" to me - not of much value.

Lots of government talking / planning / and not moving - sounds like any government.

He does agree though that the dinar is "money" and that it will be worth more value upon the Country's international recognition - but they wont get it until next month.

It's business as usual - and he has been doing this 2 years.

Not sure if this is good news or bad - or indifferent.  I get the feeling we just are wishing in one hand and waiting with the other.  We wait, and there is nothing we can do about it.
