Re: Malware Warning
It may not have come from their computer. I got one from my wife the other day, except I knew she did not send it and it did not come from our computers. Checking the headers in detail confirmed this. Folks, this is why we need to be proactive in keeping our computers safe. Always keep the operating system up to date, and always have a functioning, up to date anti-virus -- anti-spyware -- firewall system installed. I don't care if you are running Windows, Mac, or Linux, you are foolish if not to ensure these things.
Of course, the most important protective system you have is common sense. Don't open files you are not expecting, no matter who sent them to you. If you must open it, scan it first. Stay clear of sites that are known to be dangerous, sites offering code keys/ illegal hacks, sites with pirated software/videos, porn -- pretty much any site you probably should be staying away from anyway.
When I was doing tech work none out of ten computers that came in with viruses had not been kept up to date, had no antivirus system, and/or had been to the aforementioned types of sites.
This is serious stuff, and BTW the feds can take it very serious. I have a friend of mine who did a couple of years of federal time and had his teaching career ended because he had the misfortune to receive a file from a child porn distributor under FBI watch. He deleted it immediately, but the fact he had received it was all that was needed for a conviction.

It may not have come from your computer. It could have come from someone else. Many of the programs that use e-mail to spread will look for the e-mail address book file and pick one address to use as the from and then send to everyone else. The only way to be sure is to look at the full header of the e-mail which is normally hidden.
Certainly have someone look at it, but I would not be surprised to find no virus there.

Re: Malware Warning
Purps, I never open attachments unless I am expecting them. If I get one I am not expecting from someone I know I verify that they sent it first. In the case of alleyrose, if I got an e-mail from here I would not open it, first I would not expect one from her, and second, I have my preferences set to hide my e-mail. I am very careful with private info, as should all of you be. That's why my birthday is not on my profile and my profile information in general is silly/meaningless. In today's age, you can not be too careful.
Alleyrose, usually, if your computer is infected it will become very, very slow. If you are running up to date antivirus software, and not doing stupid things, the odds are you are not infected. If your machine is slow, it is good to get it checked over, it may not be a virus, some programs/services can cause a computer to run very slowly if they are malfunctioning.
In a way, computer viruses are somewhat like VD. If you take care of it, and don't do stupid things, the odds are you'll never get infected.

Re: Malware Warning
Good Advise Kevin! I am not one to open hardly any attachments unless I know it has been sent to me. I got something from Microsoft the other day and it looked for real, and started to open and virus protection caught it.

Re: Malware Warning
As I stated earlier, it most likely is someone else's computer that has your e-mail address in their address book. The malware just selected your e-mail address at random to us as the "From" identity. I got one a couple of weeks ago from my wife, and one showed up in one of my business accounts from me .... I knew all of our computers were totally up to snuff, so I looked closer at the at the message info and lo and behold, the actual origin was different from the "To" info showing on the e-mails. You have to know what you are looking at but it all shows up in the full header.jayzze wrote:kevin i had someone look t my computer and he could not find a virus in my computer . i am now confused

Re: Malware Warning
Hi guys...
I have received 2 more of the above emails today. One from terbo and one from someone else.
I have informed Ponee and will be checking it out.
So again.... do not open any email from members from this site .
If you do it is a work from home advertisement that looks ok but I bet is not.
Thanks

Re: Malware Warning
Nope, not from anyone on this list ...but I have seen these before, most likely they are coming from a third person who have 2 or more members e-mails in their address book.

Re: Malware Warning
My point exactly, they actually came from a third party's computer that has BOTH yours and their e-mail on it. It did not actually come from Terbo, the malware used that as an alias to hide the actual origin. The full header will usually reveal the true identity, but most don't know how to read that.

Re: Malware Warning
I think it someone here that has somehow picked up the malware and it is going in the archives here because they spend so much time here. But I totally could be incorrect. Just a hunch.....

Re: Malware Warning
I have clicked it and I only have firewalls on the home pc and did not have a problem. But it won't open on and gives notices on my work pc which is where I first opened it.
But whoever is getting our email addresses and sending us stuff or selling it to a marketer needs to stop it.
Thanks.....

Here is the data I could glean safely: Web Attack: Facebook Fake Survey 3
We might want to take the link off the site before someone clicks on it despite the warning or some bot spies it and reports this as a malicious site ... just a thought.

Re: Malware Warning
Agreed, but I will be very surprised if the answer is found here. Unfortunately, we may never discover which one of the roughly 26,500 registered active and inactive members, not to mention former members, computer it is originating from ... not to mention the members on OOM ...

Agreed Kevin.
I wonder if Miske would have info on how we could proceed? I think I am going to ask her tomorrow.

Re: Malware Warning
Would not hurt, seems to me I remember an issue on one of the sites a year or more back, it got tagged as malicious ... and she contacted tech support for help ... if memory serves me right they found no issues and it was cleared up in a couple of days...
