Black helicopters are over I-10 this morning....not a good sign.

So, how is YOUR morning going? Me, I'm feeling grumpy because I may have to have even more car repairs....the harmonizer is bent and is causing vibrations. Color me downright disgusted.

Oops, I should end on a high note.....how about High C?

Well, never mind, I no longer know how to post an image or host an image. It used to work, but now, no.........what a rotten day!

That would be 'harmonic balancer', it keeps engine vibrations from occuring- I'd have a technician look at the car from underneath, as the vehicle MAY have been in an accident- Those harmonic balancers just don't bend on their own-With THIS vehicle, you may have bitten off more than you can chew-What's wrong with this picture? I'd take it back under the 'lemon' law, get your money back, and get another 'better' vehicle- MadBlack Helicopters over I-10 2359006407 AND- If you're drinking 'Hi C' you could mix vodka with it, and have a breakfast 'regular' screwdriver, and if you're not feeling well, you can always mix 'milk of magnesia' and vodka, and have a 'Philip's Screwdriver!!Black Helicopters over I-10 2350219667Razz

Haha! That's funny, Terbo!

I got my Rhonda Honda repaired, I didn't buy a new car. And yes, the person that wrecked this car last year would be me. But I didn't know the harmonic balancer was damaged. I just spent $4000 to get it repaired (new transmission, radiator, etc.), but they didn't mention the other. I'm so mad! At myself. I made the wrong decision....I should have bought a new car....now my money is gone and the car still needs more work. Rats! Everything is just money, money, money.

How did they determine the balancer is bad? There are a LOT of much more likely causes of vibration. Unless it is a constant vibration even when the car is not moving I would question it. Even then I think I would have another mechanic look at it because there are still other problems that would cause the engine to run rough and vibrate, all a lot more probable. I'm not a mechanic, never even played one on TV, but I can't remember the last time I heard of someone needing to replace one.

It is a constant eventual problem with older Chrysler vehicles,as the H- balancer is comprised of two pieces, as are alot of other cars and trucks- If the vehicle has been in a bad accident,or the top piece of the balancer has become unsealed from the inner piece, it will slip, and alter the balance of the crankshaft, and the flywheel, causing a vibration, the more it slips, the more vibration can be felt-If the car or truck in question has been damaged to the extent of coming in contact with the front of the engine, and hit hard enough, it is possible to twist it enough to cause a vibration- I do know that if you take one off the crankshaft, it will vibrate your eye teeth out-Been there, done that, and it is not a good thing-Take one off an engine sometime, start it up, and you'll see exactly what I'm talking about-

I liked it better when I thought aim88's car had a "harmonizer". I imagined having one of those things so when I'd sing while I'm driving, my car could sing the harmony. Black Helicopters over I-10 949729897

I love it, SEB!! I want a harmomizer too, haha!

Kevin, you might be right. I will ask for another opinion, but it IS constant, especially when first cranked up and idling. They said the harmonic balancer was bent and usually only way for that to happen is to have a wreck, which I did, so it makes sense.

Terbo, it's a Honda Accord, not a Chrysler, but you know, I feel better after talking to a friend today. I realize I haven's spent much on maintenance and haven't had a car payment in years, so really, I'm lukcy and it's due. I'll just have to suck it up and make more money.

Love you guys (and gals) for all the feedback. I feel better!

If you replace the H- balancer, the vibes will go away-Try it and see-If it still vibrates alittle bit afterward, the front part of the crank MAY be bent, just enough to warrant replacement- Let's hope for the best-And I mentioned Chrysler because the earlier models did have that issue later on down the road, when they had excess miles on the engines, over 100,000 miles, mainly the 318, and the 360 type small block engines-Twisted Evil

You are welcome- I don't want you to spend money you don't have, to put a band aid on something that needs stitches-You might be lucky enough that the crank won't be bent, but I have seen that happen before-Black Helicopters over I-10 2834342768 Black Helicopters over I-10 2805820865Black Helicopters over I-10 2805820865Black Helicopters over I-10 230677302Black Helicopters over I-10 4169284431

We have a Honda Accord that runs like a top and never quits. Our 2nd car is a Chevy, sorta. It's a 2000 Prizm, so it has a Chevy badge but it's really a Toyota Corolla. Black Helicopters over I-10 258310255

Good thing it's not a Toyota that was produced in the last 6 years...... Highest recall per vehicle built in history!! Of course you won't find that all over the news...... Politics at its finest

Most every car has them dude, otherwise your teeth would shake out, including your Ford. Often it is the "drive pulley" attached to the crankshaft at the front/bottom of the engine. Yours looks something like this:

No offense taken at all.

Aim88.... Don't ever ask someone about being pregnant. Only to find out they they've just put on a few extra pounds. That was years ago and I felt terrible. Lesson learned!

Enjoying the friendship and being able to play (and grip) here!
