Vietnam protests China’s violation of its sovereignty

The Vietnam Fisheries Association (VFA) on Thursday voiced a protest over China’s recent infringement upon of Vietnamese sovereignty.

The association said China has recently sent thousands of fishing boats to Vietnam’s Truong Sa (Spratly) and Hoang Sa (Paracel) Islands, among other activities which have violated Vietnam’s sovereignty over the archipelagos in the East Sea.

Starting Wednesday, when China’s ban on fishing in the East Sea expired, more than 14,000 Chinese fishing boats from Guangdong province and around 9,000 fishing boats from Hainan province set sail for Vietnamese territory in the East Sea.

The VFA strenuously condemned the acts, asserting China is in violation of the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea and the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC).

It asked China to immediately adhere to international laws.

The association also called on Vietnamese fishermen across the country to continue fishing in the East Sea and asked local authorities to take stronger measures to support them and resist China’s illegal activity.

China had banned fishing in the East Sea, including some marine areas of Vietnam, between May 16 and July 31.

Not just the fishermam. I have seen other articles saying about the same thing, which reaffirms my suspicion that China has more power that the Vietnamise government wants folks to know about as China does pretty much what it wants in and around Vietnam
