HELPING THE TEACHERS Empty HELPING THE TEACHERS

Post by madaussie Sun Feb 05, 2012 2:25 pm

You all know how little the teachers get paid and the number of hours they have to put in and on top of that they use their own money to buy supplies for their classes that schools don't reimburse them for. How about going to your nearest office supply store and get enough $1k prepaid cards for every teacher at your favourite school. This will give the teachers a pay raise effectively and i'm sure will be much appreciated.☀ ☀ ☀ ☀ ☀ ☀ ☀ ☀ ☀ ☀ ☀ ☀ ☀ ☀ ☀ ☀ ☀ ☀ ☀ ☀ ☀ ☀ ☀ ☀

It fits a plan, Easy, and it helps not just one or two people, but a whole classroom or two of kids.

I will be giving them to teachers who teach in the K-6 range.

That is a great idea, I like.

I plan on getting several visa cards, and carrying them with me. Then when I feel like I see someone, that looks like it would make their day, just give them one.

But I could do both... the best way to enjoy the RV, will be blessing others.

What a very kind and generous thought! I'm a substitute teacher and I do know first hand how appreciated that gift would be! So many would benefit from it. And there is nothing better in my book than helping our youth to get the best education they can. I certainly will follow your suggestion as soon as we RV. There's only one set of people who get less in the teaching field than the teachers and that is the substitute teachers! And since so many full-time teachers have been laid off, those of us in the substitute field get even less (i.e., barely squeaking by)! Thank you so much from all of us who teach because we love to.

In OKlahoma, where I live and will continue to live, we are ranked 46th in Teacher's salaries. This is an excellent idea.

Dreams, you just gave me an idea. The grocery store near the town I currently live in has gift cards in any denomination. I could get several $50 cards to give out as and when I see the need.

Don't forget the para-educators ... they get paid nothing (around here roughly 1/2 what the teachers get and no retirement benefits) yet they end up with the most difficult kids. So many over worked, under appreciated vocations. I have said it before, and I'll say it again, before you give a dime, ask the Lord where and how. I know, I know, I have heard all the teachings on tithing, I have studied the texts in depth myself, and know all the arguments. (Funny I have never heard anyone teach on the passage in Deut 12 or 14 though.) However, it is ALL His, so ask Him first.

You're so right, Kevin! Fortunately here, they're treated a little better than that. They make a decent wage and are given benefits if they work full time and do get retirement as well. They often do almost as much as the teachers in the classroom. The greatest problem here is that their numbers have dwindled greatly, not a good thing for the teachers or for the students. It can be very depressing to be in our profession at times.

I teach middle school math and that is a great idea! I plan to retire after my students take the state test in April.

Teacher's pay has been reduced and they would really appreciate it.

But by your name, we know what you will be doing after April, thanks for being a teacher.

Excellent idea. I am a teacher and I can't begin to calculate how much I have spent on my kids/classroom. I love my students so it hasn't been a burden, but it has taken away from the family budget.

With all the budget cuts it's the same here quantity wise for the Para's ... there is no such thing as one on ones any more, more like 1 on 2, 3, or 4. Not a lot of fun when one is a hitter, one a runner, and one a thrower. My wife block a chair just before it hit her head a month or so ago ... she's working with EEE kids, so they all have issues, not fun.

I have never heard of this term... Guess we call them something different in OHIO.

I'm surprised and flattered at the attention that my idea drew.I might further add that at my fav neighborhood school most of the teachers have wish lists [such as a dvd player and small tv to play movies for the kids] which i will be taking care of as well. Our district also takes part in math competitions but there is an entrance fee and i would hate to see a kid [good at math] denied the opportunity to compete because he/she didn't have money to enter.
