I am passing this email forwarded to me this morning. It's about a medication that is familiar to many of us. Note also the FDA 's comments at the end of the message. I received this information from a friend whose mother recently passed away.

Apparently, this was caused by a medication that is deadly. Here are the details and I suggest you pass it on to your loved ones and others.

Subject: Phenylpropanolamine (PPA)

I would like to thank those of you who expressed condolences on the recent passing of my mother. She suffered a hemorrhagic stroke while she was driving home from my house at 7:30 and passed away at 8:30. My mother's stroke and passing was an enormous shock to my family because she did not have any symptoms or risk factors for a stroke. Just the week before she had gone to her doctor for a check up and received a clean bill of health. She did, however, develop a cold while she was visiting me and had taken Alka Seltzer Cold Plus for 3 days. Since her passing, we have learned that Alka Seltzer is one of the many cold medicines that contains Phenylpropanolamine (PPA) which can cause hemorrhagic stokes or cerebral bleeding even with the first use. I am forwarding a list of other medications that currently use PPA. These medicines are supposedly being recalled but my mother just purchased this medication less than two weeks ago. Pharmaceutical companies
have known about this danger for years, we unfortunately, did not.

I urge you to review the list of medicines with PPA and avoid these medications. All drugs containing PHENYLPROPANOLAMINE are dangerous. You may want to try calling the 800 number listed on most drug boxes and inquire about a REFUND. Please read this CAREFULLY. Also, please pass this on to everyone you know. STOP TAKING anything containing this ingredient. It has been linked to increased hemorrhagic stroke (bleeding in brain) among women ages 18-49 in the three days after starting use of medication. Problems were not found in men, but the FDA recommended that everyone (even children) seek alternative medicine.

I just found out and called the800# on the container for Triaminic and they informed me that they are voluntarily recalling the following medicines because of a certain ingredient that is causing strokes and seizures in children:

Orange 3D Cold & Allergy Cherry (Pink)
3D Cold & Cough Berry
3D Cough Relief Yellow 3D Expectorant

They are asking you to call them at 800-548-3708 with the lot number on the box so they can send you postage for you to send it back to them, and they will also issue you a refund. If you know of anyone else with small children,

We never even use aspirin let alone all the other so called remedies.

They are all dangerous.

There are many old time remedies that work much better than drugs.
We only chose natural remedies. We never see a conventional doctor either.
You can't trust your doctor to tell you the truth these days.
We value our lives.

We've chosen (at our Lord's direction) home birth for our seven children, most with midwife assistance whose initial experience was with a Bedoin tribe in ME; also attempted optimal nutrition and used homeopathic and other natural God-created remedies, as we believe He has provided ALL necessary for our optimal health and abundance in and upon the earth He created. We've never had "health insurance" but instead chosen to take personal responsibility for our temple (bodies) and depended upon The Lord's protection, guidance and provision, which He has been most faithful to provide, as we walk in obedience to Him. Never has my husband myself or any of our children spent a day in a hospital (as a patient), nor do we generally go to doctors of any type, as most have been trained to prescribe pharmaceuticals which obviously can be very detrimental to one's health.

We are most thankful for ALL His blessings, as all good things come from Him, by Him through Him and we belong to Him, by His Grace through Jesus The Christ, Messiah, Living Son of Almighty Yhwh, alpha and omega...

It used to also be an ingredient in a prescription for sinus infections called Entex LA. I had an allergic reaction to it and was instructed to get to an urgent care center asap-mind you after they said if you feel worse, throat closes off!, chest pains etc (I can't remember all the things that could have gone wrong!!) but thought I was going to be a gonner for sure just trying to get myself to the health center!!! :shock:

I agree with the spirit and intention of this post. I think we should legalize alternative, herbal, and holistic medicine. Allopathic medicine tends to be about taking a pill to solve a symptom. And then take another pill to relieve the side effects of the initial pill. So forth and so on.

My condolences, Peppermint Patti, on your loss and may you find the comfort you need with friends here at OOM and from our Lord above! Such a terrible thing to have happened.

As some of you may know I work mostly in the alternative healthcare arena and one fact I have learned about is that the number one killer is prescription drugs taken as prescribed and that does not include OTC drugs.

Secondly, in order for a drug to be classified as a drug, it has to be adminstered in such high doses that it kills 50% of the laboratory test animals and then it is backed down to what is considered safe for human consumption! That's just the first test it must pass!
