The Minister of Planning, Khaled Battal Al-Najm, stressed that the biggest challenge facing the Iraqi economy is the real transformation towards the private sector.
A ministry statement received by "Economy News" stated that "the Minister of Planning, while presiding over the fourth session of the Private Sector Development Council, which was held yesterday, Wednesday, stressed that the ministry is working very seriously in order to overcome all difficulties and challenges facing The process of transformation and empowerment of this vital sector, by identifying and diagnosing problems and then developing solutions and treatments required for them, noting that “one of the problems is the presence of an intersection in the relationship between the industrial and commercial sectors, and this calls for integration between them.
” He added that “there is a great need for a banking sector .” Effective development, capable of preparing the fertile investment ground for the private sector, and enabling it to implement government development policies, pointing out that “the ministry needs bold and courageous decisions that contribute to the development of the private sector, calling” the representatives of this sector to determine what is required of the government to sponsor this sector".
He stressed that "the Ministry of Planning is responsible for following up the procedures for developing the private sector, through a map of short-term procedures, and working to amend the investment law and laws that ensure meeting the requirements for establishing small and medium enterprises, as well as working on studying the possibility of using the spaces supported by government agencies." in commercial activities with small and medium-sized companies.
The Minister of Planning explained, according to the statement, that “one of the paths to developing the private sector is to develop a transitional plan for the sale and purchase of goods and services provided by public companies, with an assessment of the viability of these companies to continue or not, and to categorize them into successful, stumbling and failed, and activating procedures for restructuring them and transforming them into companies.” It operates with commercial approaches, noting that "work is underway to set standards for defining infrastructure projects and large service projects, with the aim of implementing them through partnership between the public and private sectors."
He continued, "The session witnessed a discussion of the files and issues on the agenda related to the work of the Private Sector Development Council, as a number of sectoral papers submitted by representatives of the private sector were presented, related to the sectors of agriculture, tourism, insurance, and civil mills, as well as a review of problems and obstacles." that obstruct the work of the private sector in Al-Muthanna Governorate.
He pointed out that "the council also discussed a report on the survey of the informal economy in Iraq, which was carried out by the Central Bureau of Statistics, noting that" the session was attended by the undersecretaries of the Ministry of Planning, heads of federations, associations, unions and organizations representing the private sector, and a number of general managers in ministries and authorities.
