Baghdad / NINA / - The International Energy Agency expected the growth of electrical energy consumption in Iraq by more than 6% annually, indicating that solar energy will not contribute significantly during the period 2022-2024.

In a report, the agency said, "Electricity use in the Middle East grew by more than 3.5% in the year 2021 and will continue at a rate of 2% during the period 2022-2024 with an increase in population growth, an increase in demand for air conditioning and seawater desalination, and an expansion in energy use. ".

The agency expected that “the electricity consumption in Iraq will grow at a rapid rate of more than 6% annually until the year 2024,” noting that “the Iraqi state is gradually reducing the energy deficit with the completion of at least one gas investment project (Halfaya) and many projects to revive the stations gas powered".

International Energy also indicated that "despite the ambitious plans to intensify solar energy to generate renewable energy, it is not expected to contribute significantly to meeting Iraq's energy requirements in the period 2022-2024." / End 8
