Minister of Electricity to / Nina /: We need 20 trillion dinars annually to maintain stations, and financial allocations are not available / expanded

Baghdad / NINA / - The Ministry of Electricity disclosed its annual plan for the maintenance of power processing plants in Iraq, and confirmed the lack of financial allocations to proceed with this, while referring to the payment of dues to the Iranian side for gas revenues.

The Minister of Electricity, "Adel Karim" agency, said, in a statement to the National Iraqi News Agency / NINA /: "We have an annual plan for the maintenance of power plants in Iraq, included in the ministerial program, based on the improvement of the weather," noting that "the periodic maintenance work and equipping the units will continue until a month." He added, "The financial budget is not available to proceed with this, because the outgoing parliament eliminated the allocations of the Ministry of Electricity, as more than half of the electricity sector allocations were distributed to other ministries," noting that "the ministry needs 20 trillion dinars, as a minimum, annually to purchase Gas, power, and station maintenance.

On the file of Iranian gas revenues to Iraq, the Minister of Electricity clarified that “this is the only problem during the current year, due to the failure to approve last year’s 2020 budget by the previous government,” noting that “the dues of previous years and the current year have been paid, and the Iranian side is cooperating with us in Pay the dues and provide us with gas now.”

On Iraq's trend towards renewable energy projects, Karim stressed that "the government and the Ministry of Electricity have made important strides in renewable energy and solar energy projects in comparison to neighboring countries, where we will reach 7500 megawatts," noting that "the approvals that took place in the Council of Ministers recently, will be secured within a period of time. A brief 5,000 megawatts of clean energy, which contributes to Iraq's obtaining international loans to build stations and carry out other works in the electricity sector."

Regarding the joint interconnection project with the Arab Gulf states and Jordan, the minister clarified: “The delay in the joint interconnection project with the Gulf states is due to the determination of the price of energy units, customs tariffs and the selling price. /finished5
