The Border Ports Authority has achieved an increase over the past two years in its revenues achieved in the first half of this year, amounting to 553 billion dinars.

The head of the authority, Major General Omar Al-Waeli, said that "the authority, through exercising its supervisory and supervisory role over all departments, including customs, tax and existing departments, was able to achieve upward revenues in 2020, despite the Corona pandemic, paralyzing the general situation and closing the outlets, we were able to achieve 1 trillion and 194 billion dinars. If it is compared to 2019 and the general situation at the time was ideal, and the revenues generated for 2019 are one trillion and 122 billion dinars, as it becomes clear that the difference that was achieved in 2020 from 2019 is approximately 72 billion dinars, thanks to the strict and control measures on the aforementioned entities, And making efforts in light of the exceptional situation that Iraq is going through due to the Corona pandemic,” according to “Al-Sabah.”

Al-Waeli explained that "the revenues achieved during the first half of 2021 are 553 billion dinars, and if we compare it with the first half of the previous year 2020 with its revenues of 478 billion dinars, it becomes clear that we achieved a difference and an increase of 75 billion dinars during this year of the mentioned period."

He added: "We worked for 24 hours and defied the force majeure conditions of the Corona pandemic, as well as being threatened and blowing up one of our officers' homes, and campaigns were launched against the change that occurred at the border crossings, but we stood against all these circumstances and saw a change and recovery with revenues."

With regard to “electronic automation” between the head of the Border Ports Authority, “the government has issued decisions since 2009 to work electronically at the border crossings, but this issue was only done during the era of Mustafa Al-Kazemi’s government, and there is continuous follow-up by the government, so the matter committee was formed. Al-Diwani (22) for the year 2020, headed by the Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers, and this committee is concerned with the electronic governance of all state departments, and it was divided into multiple teams, including the Customs and Border Ports Team, which is headed by the Chairman of the Border Ports Authority.

And he continued, "Before the formation of the Diwani Order Committee (22) a platform was created and with self-efforts by the Border Ports Authority and linking the five departments that have automation and that are affiliated with the Border Ports Authority (commercial accessories with regard to the certificate of origin, and land transport with regard to the land manifest, the device Central for Standardization and Quality Control in relation to the examining companies, import licenses issued by Iraqi fairs).

And he indicated that "all these departments were linked in one platform to review the procedures electronically, and this raised revenues due to auditing, examination and eliminating fraud, and all these steps were established from this platform."
