ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), Nechirvan Barzani, in a speech he delivered during a medical conference on Wednesday, said that despite ongoing developments, the region’s financial difficulties in recent years have impeded widespread improvements in the public health sector.
The KRG’s goal “has always been founding a modern, effective, and serviceable healthcare system,” stated PM Barzani in a speech during the Kurdistan 24-sponsored PharMEdent 2019 event in Erbil, subtitled “Middle East Pharmaceutical, Medical, Dental Congress & Exhibition in Iraq.”
However, “budget cuts in 2014, the fight against Da’esh [ISIS], and the bad state of the economy negatively affected further advancements in the sector,” he explained.

Dealing by multiple crises, especially from 2014 onward, the KRG’s finances became increasingly strained when the Islamic State overran a large part of northern Iraq and relations with Baghdad deteriorated, reaching a near-breaking point in late 2017, when Iraqi troops and militias took over disputed areas in response to the region’s independence vote.
Issues such as the central government cutting the region’s share of the national budget, the influx of almost two million displaced people and refugees to the region, and the fight against the Islamic State limited funding to various projects throughout the region.
With the formation of a new Iraqi government, headed by Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi, relations between Baghdad and Erbil have seen major improvements with the former now delivering the owed monthly salaries of employees in the region.
“The entire healthcare system in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq requires revision, renovation, improvement, and development,” for all of which the KRG has short-term and long-term programmes to address them. To further accommodate such schemes, Barzani affirmed that the health sector requires a larger budget.
Along with a livelier role for the private sector, the PM called for efforts in the area of “preventative” healthcare. “The media can play a better and more active role in increasing public awareness and knowledge on healthcare.”
On another point, Barzani stressed the importance of the private sector, with the experience of the advanced countries being the “living examples of this reality.”

MP breaks norms, bikes to Kurdistan Region's first parliament session

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – A newly-elected Kurdish lawmaker on Tuesday used a bicycle to go to parliament and refused all the parliamentary entitlements.

Jalal Pareshan, a new lawmaker of the leading Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), rode a bicycle to the parliament’s first session to take his oath.
He attached an umbrella with Kurdistan’s national flag on his bicycle and also installed a small box in the back to take complaints from people and deliver them to the parliament’s leadership.

“My message is clear: I want all the people of the Kurdistan Region to understand why Jalal Pareshan is going to parliament via bicycle,” Pareshan told Kurdistan 24 on Tuesday. “I will leave it for them to interpret my message, and I am sure they will know why I am doing this.”

Cycling is “a normal culture in many parts of the world,” he stated. “Almost all the doctors have emphasized that it is the best sport for our health. It is also important for the environment.”

Indeed, in North America and Europe, as well as parts of Asia, many politicians pedal to work. Pareshan called on all the lawmakers and high officials in the Kurdistan Region to break the norms and join in the culture of cycling.
“It is not only for today; I will use the bicycle for the rest of the days.”

Cycling is common for children and teenagers in the Kurdistan Region, but it is yet to gain popularity among adults and the elderly. Most people relate the lack of Kurdistan’s cycling culture to the absence of proper roads or bike lanes.

Upon his arrival at parliament, Pareshan told reporters during a press conference that he wants “to be that bridge to fill the gap.”

“I installed a ‘Complaints Box’ on my bicycle because many people were arguing that their requests and demands are not delivered to the highest authority in the Kurdistan Region which is the parliament.”
He also announced that he would not accept any of the entitlements and privileges which are given to parliamentarians in the Kurdistan Region.

“Today, I would like to inform the people of the Kurdistan Region in front of the media that in the parliament, I don’t want the salary, driver, bodyguards, IQD 40 million” or any other entitlements, not only during this parliamentary term but for decades more if I am re-elected.

“There are two things that change people: power and money. If these two things don’t affect you, you can serve your people well,” Pareshan added.

Pareshan was a member of the Erbil Provincial Council and continues his work as a football pundit and commentator for local Kurdish media.

He was one of the top-voted candidates in the Kurdistan Region’s Sept. 30 parliamentary election, securing a seat with 30,444 votes.

Abdul-Mahdi is an independent who previously served as vice president, oil minister and finance minister. He is not allied with either of the two Shiite-led blocs that each claim to have the most support after May’s elections, in which no party won an outright majority. He was previously a member of the Supreme Islamic Iraqi Council, a large Shiite party with close ties to Iran.

Adonismale:
I'm wondering if we wait until tomorrow after the Emergency Broadcast

Luvwulfs:
Why do you think the emergency broadcast means anything?

Ubetcha:
This emergency broadcast system was set up long ago with a future test planned. The same people tying that test to RV said months ago certain people where arrested and sent to prison yet those people are doing the talk show rounds.

"The Fed's Charter" - Tues. AM TNT Thoughts/News Links 9/18/18

TNT

Red:

The federal reserve has lost its charter and as of this week can no longer operate in the USA, all of their banks will convert or go out of the USA….

Briona:
I heard the Fed has lost it's charter a couple years ago, yet they still seemed to be operating as usual.

Red:
The charter expired a few years back and was not renewed , this current administration is enforcing the laws and our own Treasury will now be in full control of our US dollars…. the banks are not happy, but will comply one way or the other. credit card companies are the next to go through the wringer and be cleansed ...

if the news doesnt cheer you up put it on a back burner , someday you might revisit it...

banks are getting eager to get your money but this week the Federal Reserve license was revoked, they are out of business in the US Dollar in the USA, our Treasure is now in full control. Some of the large Fed banks are not too happy..... Our USA banks are being cleansed and stabilized to receive our RV funds without fear of theft from them...

Rei:
Red, if they accomplish that, they will have to shut all the banks down!

Red:
not shut but cleansed them up ...

Briona:
They are going to need industrial strength cleanser to cleanse the banking system, as they have decades of bad actions to clean up.
