Michael Pregent is an American strategist and intelligence expert specializing in terrorism and radical movements in the Middle East and North Africa with 28 years of work experience.

In 2007, he served as a close aide to General David Petraeus, commander of US forces in Iraq.

In a televised interview two days ago, he stated that in the same year, General Petraeus asked him to be a member of a team investigating the administrative and financial dealings of Iraqi politicians to try to identify the corrupt of them and those funded by Iran, in order to  confront them with the facts and their legal issues.

After completing the initial investigation, a list of the 50 names on which the matter was established was presented to General Petraeus, Mr. Brigitte said.

The general was stunned after reading the names and said, "I don't think we can do anything because these 50 are all the leaders of the country and occupy all the main joints of the state. Their accountability will destroy the entire political process and destroy the American project in Iraq."

In my opinion, the decision to hold them accountable is a political decision issued by Washington and not the authority of the commander of US forces in Iraq.

The latest evidence leaked by the Intercept Group shows that the Iranian influence has increased inside Iraq and that it does include all important Iraqi politicians of all sects.
