The minister announces the official reaching a new oil agreement with the Kurdistan region and clarifies its details
Oil Minister Thamer Ghadhban announced on Monday (25 November 2019) that Baghdad and Erbil have reached an oil agreement that will start to be implemented early next year.
Ghadhban said in press statements that "Baghdad and the Kurdistan region agreed on the general budget and oil," noting that "the federal government will send salaries and balance of the region's employees while Kurdistan will send 250 thousand barrels of oil a day."
He added that the oil minister, "It was agreed that early next year and in return for sending financial dues to the region such as salaries and budget from the federal budget for 2020, the Kurdistan region and on January 1, 2020 will send 250 thousand barrels of oil to Baghdad and sell it through the Somo oil company ".
Ghadhban pointed out that "the agreement between the government of Baghdad and the provincial government has been fruitful, where it will start its implementation with the beginning of 2020," noting that "talks between the two sides will continue to discuss other details."
Earlier Monday, the PUK deputy, Hassan Ali, said that the agreement between Baghdad and Erbil will be applied for one year, depends on the delivery of oil in return for the financial dues of the region with the central government.
Hassan Ali, in an interview with (Baghdad today), said that "the region will proceed to sign a preliminary agreement with Baghdad for one year, relating to the lives of people and their salary and living, including the delivery of oil in exchange for receiving financial dues."
He added that "negotiations on other outstanding issues such as the issue of Kirkuk and the disputed areas and the census and the law of the Federal Council and oil and gas, will be understood by continuing visits between the parties."
The MP for the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, that "a comprehensive agreement between the region and Baghdad, will be discussed after the end of the crisis of demonstrations in the country, to end all the issues and differences outstanding for years, and there will be a comprehensive financial agreement to ensure the region's share of the budget without the need to repeat the discussions end every year".
