Baghdad / News
The Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, Jenin Hines Blaskhart, arrived at noon Wednesday, to the liberation men in central Baghdad and met with a number of demonstrators.
"As part of our ongoing efforts to promote dialogue between protesters and the government, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Iraq, Jenin Hennes-Blachart, visited the Liberation Square to engage with the people there," a UN statement said.
While exchanging views and discussing possible ways to address the legitimate demands of peaceful demonstrators, the Special Representative reiterated that “the Government cannot fully address the legacy of the past and the current challenges in just one year”.
She called for "a national dialogue to identify immediate and effective responses to emerge from the vicious cycle of violence, and to achieve unity in the face of dangers of division and inaction by standing together. Iraqis can find common ground to shape a better future for all."
