Baghdad / News:

condemned the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq Genin Hennes-Blaschart in the strongest terms the high number of deaths and injuries during the demonstrations that swept many parts of Iraq.

"What is most worrying is the recent developments in many parts of Iraq, particularly in Karbala last night. Witness reports point to the use of live bullets against demonstrators, causing large numbers of casualties," she said in a statement received by Al-Akhbaria.

“Violence is never the solution, and the protection of lives is the imperative. A national dialogue is urgently needed to find rapid and effective responses. This vicious cycle of violence must end,” the Special Representative said.

She noted that the United Nations stands with the Iraqi people and is ready to assist in this dialogue.
