Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi received US Defense Secretary Mark Asper on Wednesday.

They discussed relations between the two countries and stressed the continuation of cooperation in the face of terrorism and support the government's efforts to enhance security, stability and national sovereignty, in addition to discussing the disturbing developments in Syria, especially with regard to terrorists imprisoned in Syria and the possibility of their escape and infiltration into Iraqi territory, in addition to displacement as a result of military operations. They also discussed the role played by Iraq in the region and its relations with all neighboring countries.

`` The United States is fully committed to supporting Iraq and respecting its national sovereignty and the desire to strengthen relations between the two countries, '' he said, noting that US forces withdrawing from Syria toward Iraq enter and withdraw from Iraqi territory with the permission and consent of the Iraqi government, and any media statements about their stay in Iraq are incorrect.
