The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights on Wednesday called on the Iraqi Council of Representatives to amend the law of the Property Claims Commission for the presence of those affected by the former regime did not receive compensation estimated at more than one trillion dinars.
A member of the Commission Ali al-Bayati said in a statement today that the Property Claims Commission Law No. 13 of 2010 Article (22) terminated the law in 30/6/2011, where citizens affected by the takeover of the land and property of the former regime can no longer submit transactions to the Commission for consideration and compensation As with 163 thousand affected, their transactions were received by the Authority before the date of termination of their work according to the law.
He added that there are a large number of citizens have been settled their transactions, but the Commission can not compensate them because of the lack of allocations by the Ministry of Finance, as the affected people demand financial amounts estimated at (trillion and one hundred million Iraqi dinars) to compensate them for the damage suffered by the Baath regime and according to the law and this It is a violation of citizens' rights and a violation of the law.
Al-Bayati said that in order to achieve justice, Parliament should amend the Property Disputes Commission Article 22 to extend the receipt of citizens' transactions and the Ministry of Finance should provide the required allocations according to the Commission's law to expedite the compensation of their cases.
