Foreign Minister Mohammed Ali al-Hakim chairs the Iraqi side in the meetings of the Iraqi-Tunisian Joint Committee, and he signs with his Tunisian counterpart a memorandum of political consultations, two memorandums of understanding pertaining to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, a transport agreement, a memorandum of understanding in security cooperation between the two countries, and a memorandum of understanding on facilitating the granting of entry visas. The Iraqi-Tunisian Joint Committee held its meeting in Tunis under the chairmanship of Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali Al-Hakim on the Iraqi side, while the Tunisian side was headed by Foreign Minister Khamis Al-Jinawi.

The two sides expressed their keenness to expand the base of joint cooperation between Baghdad and Tunisia in various fields, especially in the fields of politics, security, economy, culture, industry, agriculture, tourism, transport and banking sector, in addition to activating the signed memorandums of understanding in a systematic manner.

The meeting also discussed the development of cooperation on issues of common concern, activating the tracks of a peaceful solution in the Arab countries that are experiencing security and political crises, as well as coordinating positions in international forums, and supporting Tunisia as a member of the UN Security Council.

They concluded that the foreign ministers of the two countries signed a number of memorandums of understanding on security cooperation, political consultations, two memorandums of understanding pertaining to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, a transport agreement, and a memorandum of understanding on facilitating the granting of entry visas to businessmen from both countries, and signing the minutes of the 16th session of the Joint Committee.

The two sides agreed that the next meeting would be in Baghdad.

Iraq has signed five memorandums of understanding with Tunisia, which will be implemented in the next few years, Foreign Minister Mohammed Ali al-Hakim said on Wednesday .



Hakim said at a joint press conference with his Tunisian counterpart Khamis al-Jinawi, and followed (information), that "the meetings of the Iraqi-Tunisian joint committee will resume after a pause of seven years."



He added that " Iraq is working to build bridges of cooperation with Tunisia, where this will include different sectors," pointing out that " Iraq has signed five memorandums of understanding with Tunisia and will be implemented soon."



For his part, said Tunisian Foreign Minister Khamis Juhaina that "his country is seeking to strengthen the steps of economic cooperation with Iraq ," pointing out that "Tunisia seeks to be the main partner of Iraq in the North African region."
