The Turkish ambassador to Iraq, Fatih Yildiz, said Thursday that Iraq is unable to satisfy the local output of table eggs.

Yildiz said in a statement to Turkish media that his country "exports 73% of its domestic production of table eggs to Iraq, and a total value of 309 million dollars, noting that the domestic production of eggs in Iraq meets about 45% of the market needs in the country."

He added that "the motive behind Iraq to stop importing eggs from Turkey is to encourage domestic production, but Iraq can not within this brief period to develop a production capacity that can cover this difference in needs."

"It will be discussed with the Iraqi Ministry of Agriculture, especially since the Iraqi market is wide open to import," Yildiz said.

"We will ask them to tell us their concrete needs, and in the coming period there will be a development in this subject."

The price of table eggs in the recent period has risen significantly, where the price of "layer" eggs double the previous price because of the suspension of import of the material and dependence on domestic product, while the Ministry of Agriculture attributed the rise because of what it called "the greed of traders."

The Minister of Agriculture, Saleh al-Hassani, on Tuesday, continued to prevent the import of a number of plant crops and animal products by 15 plant crops and 3 animal products, including eggs, for their abundance in local
markets and support for the local product and the national economy.

Turkish Ambassador to Baghdad Fatih Yildiz proposed Thursday to build a railway line between his country and Iraq, pointing out that this line, if implemented, will link Basra city to Mersin, stressing that Turkey will be ready in case Iraq is ready for the project.

"Turkey should build a railway with Iraq directly as there is no direct rail link to Turkey with Iraq," Yildiz was quoted by the Anatolia news agency as saying. On the Rabia side (on the Iraqi-Syrian border) to the place where we will establish the second crossing. "

He added that "Turkey will be ready in case Iraq is ready for this," pointing out that "we must connect the railway line currently existing, extending from the city of Nusaybin to the point I am talking about, so if we can achieve this, we will have linked the cities of Basra and Mersin together ".

Yildiz pointed out that "Turkey has traveled a great and important distance in its talks with the Iraqi side regarding the opening of the second crossing" Ofakoy "border crossing, stressing" the importance of the crossing as a strategic line for Turkey, and it will be the second option. "

Yildiz said that "Turkey wants through this crossing to revive trade and employment opportunities on this line in the region," stressing that "it is important for Turkey to have at least another crossing with Iraq, which has eight border crossings."

Iraq relies heavily on Turkey and Iran to import most of its food and electrical equipment.
