The border crossing authority announced that the local government of Basra informed it that it will ensure the rehabilitation of the port of Safwan border of the 50% of the balance of revenue from the port. 

He said the head of the border crossing in Iraq, Kazem al-Aqabi to the Murad that after the visit of the Kuwaiti delegation to Basra to discuss the opening of the free zone between Basra and Kuwait and the proposed draft agreement on the rehabilitation of the port of Safwan, told him the Basra Council that the local government will undertake to develop and rehabilitate the port of its budget and will inform the government In this regard.

Al-Aqabi added that he sent a letter to Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi on the decision of the government of Basra in order to resolve this matter in coordination with the relevant parties such as the Ministry of Interior, the Border Crossings Council, the Diwan of Basra Governorate and the Ministry of Planning to resolve the matter in order to send the plans to Kuwait. And handing over the land for the construction process. 

Kuwait and Iraq agreed to rehabilitate Safwan port in Basra, which links it with Al-Abdali port. Kuwait will help rehabilitate the port of Safwan as a gateway to increase the volume of trade between the two countries and the Basra Council has refused to conclude any agreement related to the work of ports and border crossings.
