Next Sunday .. Baghdad hosts the trilateral summit between Iraq, Egypt and Jordan Thumbnail.php?file=________________________________________________747394963

The tripartite meeting between Iraq, Jordan and Egypt on August 4, 2019, hosted by Baghdad, is one of the most important measures taken by the Iraqi Foreign Ministry in the post-IS era and under Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi in the direction of cooperation and improving relations with Arab countries. The meeting, which was held in Baghdad with the participation of Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and Iraqi Foreign Minister Mohammed Ali al-Hakim, was the third round of joint talks ...

Al Ahd News - Follow-up

In March this year, in Cairo, Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdel Mahdi met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Jordan's King Abdullah II. In June, Iraqi President Barham Saleh held a tripartite meeting with the Egyptian and Jordanian leaders in Amman. The continuation of these meetings in the current situation reflects the level of good relations between the three countries and their determination to work together. However, based on the details announced by the Iraqi Foreign Ministry and the process of holding this meeting, three important objectives and outcomes of this tripartite meeting can be assessed as follows.

The first and most important goal of the countries attending the tripartite summit in Baghdad can be described as an attempt to jointly combat terrorism. Undoubtedly, in the years after the rise of ISIS in 2013, Iraq was the most important victim of this terrorist group, and the country had several difficult years to liberate a large part. Of its territory from its occupation.

On the other hand, unlike some countries in the region, such as Saudi Arabia, which supports Wahhabism and terrorism, Egypt and Jordan strongly fear the spread of extremist groups in their countries.

Meanwhile, Egypt, in its new position led by Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, who overthrew the Muslim Brotherhood in a near-coup attempt, fears more than any other Arab country that it is increasing the sphere of influence and behavior of these extremist groups, so since the middle of the crisis in Syria, it has had a more moderate stance. From most Arab governments toward the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, because they knew that opponents of Damascus were radical Salafi groups that could pose a threat to Cairo in the future.

The presence of the Islamic State terrorist organization in Sinai under the name of Ansar al-Sharia, its attempt to carry out terrorist activities in Jordan, and its continuing threats in Iraq are the main focus that Baghdad, Amman and Cairo need to reach consensus at their recent summit, which they put at the center of their concerns. Indeed, what has become clear to the countries of the region after a turbulent period is that no one will benefit from the use of terrorist groups in geopolitical rivalries, that the security of the region is fundamentally integrated, and that everyone will pay the price for any crisis there.

Efforts to rebuild some Iraqi areas that have fallen victim to terrorism during ISIS's alleged succession can be seen as another target of the tripartite summit in Baghdad.Indeed, the spread of takfiri ideology in areas that were often plagued by poverty and lack of economic development has led experts to emphasize the need to address economic and welfare levels of the war-torn population as an important factor in preventing the spread of takfiri ideology.

In this context, although Egypt and Jordan do not have much financial capacity, participation in the reconstruction and signing of civil contracts between Egyptian and Jordanian companies with Iraq was on the agenda of the political officials of the three countries. In this regard, the Egyptian and Jordanian Foreign Ministers stressed in their final statement the efforts of their countries to enhance cooperation with Iraq in all fields, and the importance of creating a sustainable and productive investment environment that contributes to enhancing regional stability and development.

In addition to the above two objectives, the third objective of the meeting could be assessed on the basis of the active participation and active role of the Iraqi government. Over the past two years, Iraqi officials, despite the trend in Arab countries, have made great efforts to remove tension and resolve regional issues in West Asia.

Iraq is one of the most important Arab countries that emphasize strengthening Islamic relations and improving relations between the Arabs and Iran.

On the first level, Baghdad will work to strengthen Arab relations. In this regard, Iraqi President "Barham Saleh" after the meeting of foreign ministers, and during his meeting with "Sameh Shukri" and "Ayman Safadi," that Iraq's priority is "to establish relations with the brothers in the framework of his policy of expanding relations with Arab countries And Islamic. "

At the second level, Iraq sought at the recent summit to persuade Egypt and Jordan to change their position on Iran and seek to expand cooperation with Tehran. From Baghdad's point of view, Iran is not only seen as a competitor to the Arabs, but must also be respected as an undeniable regional superpower within the Muslim world. Therefore, in order to resolve regional issues and ease tensions, it is necessary for Egypt and Jordan, as important players on the Arab front, to increase their diplomatic relations with Tehran.
