Planning holds consultative meeting to discuss UNFPA country program document on Iraq (2020-2024)

The head of the Central Bureau of Statistics in the Ministry of Planning, Dr. Zia Awad Kazim, said Wednesday that the Iraqi government, in cooperation and partnership with international organizations and agencies of the United Nations, including the United Nations Population Fund, aims to reflect the priorities of the government and its programs and development plans in joint work programs. The Fund, in accordance with a plan of action commensurate with the resources and potentials and meet the ambitions and vision of the state 

Addressing a consultative meeting to discuss the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) country program document on Iraq (2020-2024), Kazim said that Iraq is one of the first in the UN and is committed to the UN goals of achieving development and prosperity, Goals and purpose in order to meet these commitments.

 He continued: "No one is aware of the role of the United Nations Population Fund, and the current cooperation and generous support to the planning of the electronic census, which is expected to be implemented in 2020 as the Fund contributed to the enhancement and development of skills of the staff of the device and improve technical capabilities in statistical areas to enhance the possibility of transformation Towards electronic census using modern techniques and methodologies developed and added: 50 years after the establishment of the fund and 25 years after the Cairo International Conference on Population, the new vision of the Fund is to enable women and mothers to make their decision freely to complete pregnancy and childbirth in order to improve their reproductive health and to provide the same opportunities and rights between the sexes. 

We are working to make this vision real and reality in our society, indicating that this is achieved through discussions and dialogue between all parties and concerned parties. This is what we will work on through the maturity of our vision and thinking a lot to prioritize the ladder of the basic needs of development. The first and foremost by the togetherness and all the concerted efforts of both ministries, international organizations, civil society organizations, academia and the private sector in order to prepare a plan and program of common country work with the United Nations Fund and to achieve the goals of sustainable development. 

He added that this organization has been working with many countries in the world for 50 years. We have done a great deal for women and girls but we have a lot to do. Therefore, part of the UNFPA plan for the year 2018-2021, Of deaths at birth and zero because of gender violence and zero for all the needs of the family as they are fully met and that the United Nations Fund meets every four years with the Ministry of Planning to approve what is achieved in the future for women and girls in Iraq and to define the future of Iraq And sleep we take this step to achieve This goal, affirming that the partnership with the Iraqi government has enabled us to respond to cases of gender-based violence as well as births in fragile communities.

Meanwhile, UNFPA Vice-President Hamir Abdul-Ghani gave a presentation on the most important features of the proposed UNFPA country program document on Iraq (2020-2024). It is worth mentioning that this meeting aims to agree on the general outlines, general directions, major interventions and geographical locations of the document, with the participation of government institutions, UN agencies, donors, development partners, the private sector, civil society and civil society, which discussed a number of themes, including reproductive health, Population, development and youth).
