Attended  by Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs and Finance Minister Mr. Fouad Hussein  , on behalf of the Prime Minister , Mr. Adel Abdul Mahdi , in the work of the Digital Forum of the Arab Mashreq which will be held in the Jordanian capital Amman Saturday June 29, 2019 under the slogan of "leap media industrial revolution" and in the presence of government sector representatives Private and business executives and international and regional investors.




In his speech during the opening session of the forum, Mr. Fuad Hussein said that the Mashreq Forum is sponsoring the development of the Fourth Industrial Revolution in the countries of neighboring countries. Jordan is the first host of this event and the development and sponsorship of digital technology will lead to the establishment of justice for citizens, This trend represents the direction of Iraq in its next phase, as in most countries in the region.




It is also worth noting that the Forum held several workshops and meetings attended by private sector entrepreneurs from Jordan, Iraq and Lebanon as well as representatives of the Government of Iraq and other participating countries. It is hoped that the Forum will establish trade partnerships among them.




Digital transformation is a unique opportunity to help the Mashreq economies address many of the social and economic challenges to achieving sustainable economic growth and building inclusive societies.

On the sidelines of the forum, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Mr. Fouad Hussein Al-Sayed Al-Razzaz, Prime Minister of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.




During the meeting, they exchanged views on enhancing bilateral relations between the two countries, especially in the fields of economy and technology.

Ladies and Gentlemen, It is my pleasure to be with you today on behalf of Mr. Adel Abdul Mahdi , Prime Minister and convey the greetings of sovereignty to attend

• First, let me thank the Forum's organizers, His Royal Highness Prince Al Hussein Bin Abdullah, the Jordanian Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, the World Bank Group and, in particular, the World Bank Office in Iraq. 

Why Digital Economy?

• The digital economy and entrepreneurship are an opportunity to build strong foundations for the future of Iraq.

• Iraq will be digitally linked to the rest of the world, and its people will be able to interact digitally

• Technology can play an important role in reconstruction efforts in Iraq, so both the public and private sectors work hand in hand to promote an enabling environment for the digital economy

Country situation and achievements

• Iraq has a dynamic digital environment

• Large-scale access to mobile and indoor devices is gaining access, and the Government of Iraq has an ambitious plan to increase quality and expand coverage

• Iraqis are very active users of social media, and Iraqi youth have the same aspirations as their peers in the region and the rest of the world.

• We already have laws and regulations to protect consumers and digitize government services and sign them electronically

• We are also ready to fight cybercrime and ensure that Internet users are aware of the risks and opportunities offered by the digital economy

• Iraq is on track to adopt an ambitious online payment system - enhancing digital financial services with high-tech companies

• More and more entrepreneurs are starting their projects and are being supported by new initiatives such as business structures, competitions and investment funds such as the Iraq Pioneers Initiative and the World Bank Office in Iraq last month, as well as the significant support provided by the CBI to support the growth of small and medium enterprises

• Through the Government Private Sector Development Strategy (2014-2030), we will ensure that future developments are achieved through public and private partnerships

To move forward

• We are committed to an ambitious roadmap for the digital economy and this important forum will contribute to achieving our goals and objectives

• The Government of Iraq is committed to further developing the digital economy and aims to ensure affordable access to high-speed Internet by doubling access to broadband connectivity and reaching 54% by 2021 and 90% by 2030, bringing broadband coverage to international standards.

• The Government of Iraq is committed to establishing a favorable regulatory and political framework for digital payments and developing the interoperable digital payment infrastructure

• The Government of Iraq is also committed to providing government digital services, ensuring the highest standards of cybersecurity and data privacy to enhance consumer confidence.

• The Government is also keen to ensure that education and training programs meet the needs of the current and future labor market.

Finally

• The emergence of digital technologies presents a unique opportunity to accelerate economic and social growth in Iraq - opening new avenues for rapid economic growth, innovation, job creation and access to services that were unimaginable a few years ago.
