[rtl]Al Ahd News - Follow-up[/rtl]

[rtl]NATO said on Thursday that the escalation of tension between the United States and Iran in the Middle East did not affect in any way the work of the NATO mission in Iraq.[/rtl]

[rtl]Canadian General Danny Fortin, who leads the 500-strong NATO advisers and trainers mission in Iraq, said in a statement that his forces had "mitigated the danger" and could have continued working at a time when the United States had withdrawn its non-essential staff from its embassy in Baghdad and its consulate in Erbil, Germany and the Netherlands suspended their military missions in the country. Fortin told reporters at the NATO headquarters in Brussels on Thursday that the security threat was still present without doubt, saying that the danger reached a critical level a few weeks ago, which called for the concerns of the United States and its partners. He noted that the forces of "NATO" in Iraq in these circumstances taken measures to ensure "vigilance about unpredictable things and variables," and continued: "That is why this had no impact on our advisory and training activities."[/rtl]
