The Ministry of Planning announced on Thursday the signing of a memorandum of cooperation with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) on capacity building and advisory services in the Lebanese capital Beirut.

"The Minister of Planning, Dr. Nouri Sabah al-Dulaimi , signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) within the framework of joint technical cooperation with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) at the headquarters of the main committee in Beirut, "He said.

"The memorandum of understanding signed by Dulaimi on Iraq with Dr. Rola Dashti, Executive Secretary of ESCWA, seeks to assist Iraq in building capacity and providing advisory services, in accordance with the powers granted to ESCWA and the priorities of its programs of work and resources available between 2019 and 2020."

"The UN committee will undertake, in accordance with the MOU, to cooperate in assessing the impact of climate change, improving food security and providing technical support in the areas of technology, statistics, transport, logistics and traffic safety, while ESCWA will provide its services to build a national index of multidimensional poverty, Labor market, and building economic and political models. "

"The UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) will contribute to the development of rural development, the empowerment of women and gender equality, the development of a pilot program on human reconstruction in liberated areas, And supporting decentralization, to localize sustainable development goals at the local level. "

He explained that "the agreement provided for the coordination of the UN Commission with the United Nations programs in Iraq to ensure consistency of implementation and avoid duplication of support, and to submit implementation reports and program results to the Iraqi Ministry of Planning as the national focal point."
