{Baghdad: Euphrates News} Commented on the Kurdistan region, the federal government's decision in Baghdad to prevent the import of ice cream and soft drinks to support the local product.

"They support the decision of the federal government to develop and protect the local product,

" said Mustafa Zubair, technical director and supervisor of laboratories at the General Directorate for Industrial Development at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in the Kurdistan Region .

"When a decision is made to increase tariffs or prevent the importation of a commodity, it is necessary to balance the interests of the consumer, the factory and the trader, but the decision only takes into consideration the interests of the local factory.

"No matter how much the fees levied on imported ice cream are increased, local factories can not compete with Iranian products in terms of prices, because the cost of production in Iran is very low, so the federal government resorted to the option of preventing the import of these goods," Zubair said.

After the unification of the customs tariff between the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, the region is committed to all decisions of the federal government to increase or reduce customs duties and prevent the import of goods, says Director General of the Kurdistan Regional Customs, Samal Abdul Rahman: "This decision was issued in Baghdad has not yet been officially informed, We will not talk about its implementation or not. "

He notes that for the purpose of protecting and promoting local production, the importation of ice cream, soft drinks and non-carbonated beverages into Iraq will be banned from early next month.
