The Iranian government intends to start the railway linking project between the Shalamjah (Southwest) border with Iraqi Basra after Eid al-Fitr, after the contractor was identified and the employment of the institution "Binad vulnerable" investments in this strategic project.
Iran has established a 19 km railway line in 2011 between the Shalmaja and Khorramshahr (south-west) regions, which are connected to the public rail network.
On the other hand, the city of Basra linked Sakkia city Karbala, which is intended to millions of visitors Iranians annually to visit the holy shrines.
With 32 kilometers of planned railway between Shalamjah and Basra and the construction of a 800-meter-long railway bridge on the Arund River, rail links between Iran, Iraq and the eastern Mediterranean countries will be achieved, which will represent a major shift in transit, cargo exchange and passenger transport.
In this context, the cost of constructing the railway between Shalmaja and Basra is estimated at 150 billion riyals ($ 42,000) and will be established within two years.
