Washington apologized to Iraq after its fighter jets mistakenly bombed a military vehicle in the province of Kirkuk last month, killing one federal police officer and injuring two others.

On April 24, a coalition fighter of the International Coalition bombed a military vehicle belonging to the Federal Police Forces south of Kirkuk during a military operation to pursue a campaign in which coalition aircraft participated, killing one policeman and injuring two others.

The Federal Police Command of the Iraqi Ministry of Interior said in a statement (Pasnews), the US Charge d'affaires in Iraq, Joe Hood, on Saturday visited the headquarters of the Federal Police in Baghdad.

Adding, the US official "condolences and apology by the US government to the Federal Police Command following the incident of the killing of an associate and wounding two others from the 11th Brigade, the third division of the federal police by mistake by coalition aircraft."

The coalition supports Iraqi forces in the fight against the militants of the Daqash organization, which controlled a third of the country's territory before Iraq announced in December 2017 the restoration of its entire territory from the grip of the organization, which has recently begun to increase its activity in the areas between the provinces of Diyala (East), Kirkuk and Salah Al-Din and Mosul (north), where a series of operations targeted security forces and civilians.
