Exxon Mobil has evacuated all its foreign employees from the West Qurna 1 oil field in Iraq to take them to Dubai, sources said on Saturday.

The evacuation took place in several stages late on Friday and early Saturday to Dubai directly or to the main camp for the company's foreign employees in the province of Basra.

The three sources, an employee of a security firm contracted by Exxon, an Iraqi oil official and a staff member of a foreign oil company, said those in the camp were on their way to the airport now.

On the other hand, Iraqi officials confirmed that production in the field was not affected by the evacuation, adding that the work is proceeding at a normal pace and is responsible for Iraqi engineers.

This comes days after a US warning of its nationals in Iraq, and asked the US Embassy in Baghdad from non-essential staff to leave, following the escalation of tension between the United States and Iran against the backdrop of security intelligence information reported earlier in the possibility for an Iranian threat "imminent" US forces in the region .

Al-Hurra television reported on its Twitter website on Wednesday that the US oil giant ExxonMobil had begun withdrawing its employees from an oilfield in Basra.

The US channel, quoted in an urgent tweet at the time, sources in the Basra Oil Company, that "ExxonMobil US begins the evacuation of its staff working in the field of West Qurna in the province of Basra."
