BAGHDAD (Reuters)
- US President Donald Trump responded to a report in the New York Times on a plan Washington is preparing to send 125,000 troops to the Middle East.

"I can do that now, of course, but we have not planned to," Trump said on Tuesday when asked about the matter.

The US president described the report as "false news," but added: "If we do, we will send a much larger number of those mentioned," expressing his wishes that he does not need to develop such a plan.

"Who published this story? The New York Times, the New York Times is publishing false news," Trump said of the source of the report.

The US newspaper said the Trump administration plans to send 125,000 US troops to the Middle East, easing tensions with Iran.
