BAGHDAD /

Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi on Saturday discussed with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo the political and security situation in the region.

"The Prime Minister stressed the importance of enhancing cooperation between the two friendly countries, deepening economic relations and Iraq's desire to transfer US technology and expertise to Iraq, create jobs in Iraq and develop vital sectors," said a statement issued by Abdul Mahdi's office.

"The Prime Minister stressed the importance of strengthening the efforts of the parties to resolve the final negotiations and the signing of the" one package "with Exxon Mobil US to develop the Iraqi energy sector. He noted that "the Prime Minister reviewed the results of his European tour and other important files of common interest."

"Pompeo is supporting the Iraqi government and its foreign policy, welcoming Iraq to take its role and its great position in the region and to promote economic, political and cultural cooperation between the two countries," the statement said.
