Iraq is continuing its negotiations with US officials over its exclusion from sanctions against Iran, an official source told the New Arab newspaper, while warning that cutting off Iranian gas from Iraq would cause four power stations to be shut down in the country.
The newspaper quoted the source as saying that "Iraqi officials are communicating with US officials, because they are more willing with Iraq than with Turkey or India," noting that "the introduction of the option of compensation through Saudi Arabia for these quantities of energy remains a speech and needs to transfer from one country to another Many months. "
Iraq imports on a daily basis about 28 million cubic meters of gas used to generate electricity in stations deployed in the south and center of the country, while also importing about 1200 megawatts of electricity through the high-pressure lines in Basra and Diyala south and eastern Iraq in accordance with an agreement with Iran will enter soon Eighth year.
The Iraqi Ministry of Electricity, has announced that Iraq has no alternative to the import of Iranian gas, noting that the suspension of imports will deprive Iraq of 4,000 megawatts of electricity.
The newspaper quoted a source in the ministry as saying that "the Iranian gas reaching the power plants in the south of the country continues, and there are no indications that it will stop," explaining that "stop this means the cessation of four power stations in the country, which requires the government to declare a state of emergency at the level energy".
The United States said on Monday that Iranian oil buyers should end their imports soon or face sanctions, prompting crude prices to rise 3 percent to their highest level since the beginning of 2019.
