The Ministry of Agriculture announced on Thursday the ban on the import of garlic from all border crossings as of mid-May due to local availability. 
The ministry said in a statement received by Al-Iktissad News, a copy of it, that "based on the powers vested in the Minister of Agriculture to prevent and open the import in the light of the abundance and scarcity of the local agricultural product and according to the letter of the Council of Ministers / According to the agricultural calendar, got approval to prevent the import of garlic and all border crossings and as of 15/4/2019. 
"The number of crops banned from imports is currently 11, including eggplants, carrots, seeds, dates, vegetables, cauliflower, maize, oranges, garlic and lettuce," the statement added.
"The Ministry's policy is to protect the local product by protecting the consumer from the other side and through the application of the agricultural calendar, as well as the data received from the directorates of agriculture, which shows the abundance of agricultural product scarves, Resolution in support of domestic product protection. "
