Iraq ranked fifth among the oil producing countries with the largest proven crude oil reserves for 2019.
According to the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) in its statistics for the year 2019 viewed by "Economy News", "Iraq ranked fifth in the world's largest proven crude oil reserves for 2019."
She explained that "Iraq's reserves of oil during 2019 amounted to 147 billion barrels," noting that "these reserves increased compared to 2017, which amounted to 143 billion barrels.
"Venezuela ranked first in the world's largest proven crude oil reserves of 303 billion barrels, followed by Saudi Arabia with 266 billion barrels, Canada ranked third with 167 billion barrels and Iran ranked fourth with 156 billion barrels."
The oil ministry announced in 2017 the increase in the size of Iraq's reserves to 153 billion barrels, and indicated that it would ask OPEC to adopt it.
