Iraq announces plan to grow one million palm trees

Minister of Agriculture Saleh al-Hassani said Tuesday that his ministry is working within the strategic plans to support the local product, including the planting of a million palm trees and the dissemination of sprinkler systems on agricultural land to face water scarcity in the future.
Al-Hassani said in a statement in the official newspaper "Al-Sabah" that "the ministry is on the horizon of large strategic plans to increase the number of palm trees through the program of planting one million palm trees and other agricultural plans adopted by the Prime Minister to spread and distribute spraying systems on agricultural lands Water in the future ".
Al-Hassani explained that "the new ministry's policy depends on the production of agricultural crops that meet the needs of the local market and prevent their importation, and the full access of water to farmers as modern technology without wasting water." He added that «the role of the prime minister is clear in supporting agriculture in Iraq, To support the House of Representatives legislation to preserve agricultural products and protect the local agricultural product and prevent import. "
He pointed out that "the ministry adopts the implementation of agricultural calendar and support products to serve the protection of local product and prevent the import of all products that are available to grow in Iraq and enough to meet the need of the market, and when the health can resume import again."
