The Ministry of Planning, in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), held a workshop on Parliament, Sustainable Development Goals and Iraq Agenda 2030 in the presence of First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Hassan Alkabi, a number of members of the House of Representatives, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Planning for Technical Affairs Dr. Maher Hammad and a number of Directors General. And university professors.
 Undersecretary of the Ministry of Planning said in his speech that the Ministry of Planning, by virtue of its tasks, has been developing development plans using its national expertise based on its previous role in following up the Millennium Development Goals and setting the framework for follow-up implementation and review of the agenda through an institutional framework at various levels to follow up the implementation of the Development Agenda Stressing the importance of supporting the House of Representatives emanating from the legislative and regulatory authority in conjunction with the support of the decentralized administration to carry out a revival of awareness in the provinces of Iraq to seek sustainable development. He pointed out that this agenda will be achieved under three development plans and under four governments and parliaments. He pointed out that the executive and legislative sides each have their own role in implementing the legislative objectives, which is the most important that we require today to approve this agenda and objectives, as well as the need for the role of parliament. This agenda is a voluntary agenda, as the public is the most important commitment to implement it.
For his part, First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Hassan Al-Kaabi said in a speech that the first objective of the agenda is "eradicating poverty". He pointed out that Iraq has suffered long from terrorism and mismanagement of resources and corruption. He pointed out that 20% of its citizens are under poverty. To develop realistic strategic plans rather than strategies for poverty alleviation. He stressed the parliament's readiness to put in place legislative policies based on the priorities of the goals of sustainable development. He pointed out that such legislation is suitable for the most vulnerable and vulnerable groups. The parliament is working to enhance community participation in legislating and promoting public questions through hearings and meeting with stakeholders and cooperation with research centers, Legislation relating to education, health, social services, rights and freedoms, and proper institutional building. He added that each strategic plan does not provide adequate funding from the public budget ink on paper and does not achieve efforts to develop them. He stressed that:
It is worth mentioning that the workshop included presenting the Iraqi government's efforts on the goals of sustainable development and the vision of Iraq 2030 as well as presenting the structure of the voluntary national report of Iraq and the basic issues dealt with in addition to enhancing the roles of parliaments on the goals of sustainable development
