BAGHDAD (KUNA) - A bilateral talks between the foreign ministry delegation and Iraqi foreign ministry officials were held in Baghdad on Tuesday to discuss a number of joint issues. The Kuwaiti delegation was headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Khaled Al-Jarallah while the Iraqi side was headed by Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Nizar Al-Khairallah.
The talks will discuss a number of joint files and ways of developing bilateral relations between the two countries. The two sides will also discuss the preparations for the seventh session of the Iraqi-Kuwaiti Higher Ministerial Committee to be held soon in Kuwait. The Kuwaiti delegation included Ambassador Salem Al-Zamanan, Deputy Foreign Minister for the Office of Deputy Minister Ayham Al-Omar, Assistant Foreign Minister for Legal Affairs Ghanem Al-Ghanim and Deputy Assistant Foreign Minister for Legal Affairs Salem Al-Shibli. The Iraqi delegation included the adviser of Minister Mohammed Hammoud, the head of the Arab department in the ministry Ismail Shafiq and a representative of the Ministry of Transport Captain Marine Karim Jabbar.
The Kuwaiti Deputy Foreign Minister Khalid Suleiman Al-Jarallah went to the Republic of Iraq on Tuesday to head the delegation of Kuwait in the political consultations between the two countries in Baghdad.
The delegation includes the Assistant Foreign Minister for the Office of Deputy Minister Ayham Abdul Latif Al-Omar and the Assistant Foreign Minister for Legal Affairs Ambassador Ghanem Saqr Al-Ghanim.
For his part, Deputy Foreign Minister Khalid al-Jarallah said yesterday that he discussed with officials of the Iraqi Foreign Ministry a number of important bilateral files in addition to preparing for the meeting of the Kuwaiti-Iraqi High Ministerial Committee in its seventh session.
This came in a statement made by Al-Jarallah to (KUNA) at the end of a round of talks held with Iraqi officials headed by the Iraqi side and Undersecretary of the Iraqi Foreign Ministry Nizar al-Khairallah. Al-Jarallah said that his visit to Iraq comes within the framework of consultation and coordination between the two countries and is an update of the talks held during the visit of the Undersecretary of the Iraqi Foreign Ministry to Kuwait last year. He said the two countries are keen to communicate and build excellent relations based on solid foundations to serve the interests of their peoples. Al-Jarallah said that the talks between the two sides were "productive and constructive, in which they agreed on many detailed matters and future plans that laid down their pillars during the recent mutual visits between senior officials of the two countries."
He revealed that the two sides also discussed a number of outstanding issues between the two countries and the need to work on resolving and ending. He said that the talks also dealt with preparations for the meetings of the Kuwaiti-Iraqi Higher Ministerial Committee scheduled to be held in Kuwait in April.
Al-Khairallah said that the main objective of the visit of Kuwaiti Deputy Foreign Minister Khalid Al-Jarallah was to prepare for the meetings of the Higher Ministerial Committee, stressing the political will of the two governments to develop bilateral relations.
He added that they discussed outstanding issues and future projects as well as files related to trade and economic integration between the two countries.
It is likely that other meetings will be held before the date of the meeting of the Higher Ministerial Committee, for the parties keen to build a clear vision and preparation well before the meeting.
