announced the Minister of Defense and Foreign Canadians Monday to extend themissions traineeships military bases in Iraq and by the Canadian Ukraine tasks.

The two missions were scheduled to end at the end of March, but the security concerns that have prompted their dispatch remain.

In Iraq , by March 20 , Canada will retain 250 Special Forces personnel to train and advise local security forces, and will retain several attack helicopters involved in the US-led coalition against a pro-Western organization.

If necessary, the number of Canadian troops in Iraq could be increased to 850, which would also help Jordan and Lebanon strengthen their security capabilities, officials said.

Said Canadian Defense Minister Hargit Sagan at a joint press conference with Foreign Minister "have made significant progress and sustained, but we are aware of the need for further action. Now we must ensure that can not Daesh rebuild (abilities) and threaten the security of Iraq."

In Ukraine, about 200 Canadian soldiers will continue to provide weapons, engineering, logistics and medical training until the end of March 2022. Since 2015, Canada has trained some 11,000 Ukrainian troops.

Toronto will host a third conference on reform in Ukraine from July 2 to 4.

"Ukraine can continue to rely on Canada's firm support," Foreign Minister Christia Freeland said.

"It is very important to send a strong message to Ukraine, the Ukrainian people and the international community that the invasion of the Crimean peninsula and the annexation of the Crimea are a serious violation of international law."
