Thank you Jim for this news, with the snowstorms we have lately, I am more often behind the snow shovel than behind the computer to do research on dinars.

The US consul in Basra province Timmy Davis said on Monday that foreign companies want to expand investment opportunities with Iraq, indicating that the Iraqi economy will enter international trade relations.



"Washington wants to work on the prosperity of the Iraqi economy by entering into global trade relations," Davis said in a speech at a consultative seminar entitled "Iraq's Path to Economic Development through Excellence" at the headquarters of the National Investment Authority. Success for Basra, "calling on the men of the ages to" lay the foundations for the benefit of people and help the Iraqi economy. " 

He added that "representatives of foreign companies want to work in Iraq, and there is a possibility to develop the relationship and open the way to exchange ideas and expand investment opportunities in several areas, and representatives currently in Basra, representing businessmen." 

He pointed out that "Washington is committed to be a good partner for Iraq and open wide areas, but it is not strange to see many representatives of US companies in Iraq, especially in southern Iraq."

NIC, in coordination with the US Department of Commerce and the US Embassy in Baghdad, hosts a Franchise granting workshop over four days for the Iraqi private sector to expand the activities of international commercial brands in Iraq.
Dr. Sami AL- Araji, NIC Chairman said in his opening speech that Iraq is in its way for opening up in services sector through providing support to the Iraqi private sector adding that obtaining the licenses of international commercial brands can provide important economic revenues represented by the opening up of the big world companies towards Iraqi Market and creating many job opportunities all over Iraqi provinces.
Dr. Sami assured that NIC, which represents the umbrella for the Iraqi private sector, is determined to organize the required efforts in this field in coordination with the PICs after laying the necessary legal frameworks in a way that grants adding added value for the Iraqi Economy giving his directives to facilitate the visas for brands owners until obtaining the legal approvals to name the whole project as an investment project rather than being named as a commercial one.
The US Counsel in his turn said in his speech that the US Franchisers are looking to Iraq as a unique key market and are willing to reinforce its being an active franchise market in a way that contribute to local job opportunities growth and improving the supply chain which leads to more investments in the end.
Ms. Mays al- Ebosy, the coordinator of the US Department of Commerce and the and the supervisor of the session, invited the attendees to open discussions to listen to the obstacles that face the Iraqi private sector in this file, referring that the second and third days of this workshop will be dedicated for PICs and promoting investment in provinces, while the fourth day will be focusing on polarizing hotel investments to Iraq.
The first day session included in all the opportunities of entering the Iraqi market, the franchise current market, the challenges that might hinder this market and what can be undertaken to provide support this important commercial sector.

The head of the National Investment Commission, Sami Araji, on Monday, the cooperation of US companies to enter Iraq, especially in four provinces, noting that this year will witness a great openness and a clear rise in the country.



"At the end of 2013 and the beginning of 2014, the best American companies in the world began to cooperate with them to enter Iraq and in four provinces," Araji said in a speech during a consultative seminar entitled "Iraq's path towards economic development through excellence" Baghdad, Basra, Najaf and Karbala. " 

"We have made good progress with foreign companies and sent delegations to New York to negotiate with them. Negotiations have been concluded and we have agreed to go to Baghdad to diagnose the place," he said, stressing that "international companies enter Iraq without an intermediary from Arab countries." 


"Since 2014, it has been assumed that international brands will be dealt with, but the introduction of a pre-emptive organization into some provinces has changed the equation," he said. "This year will see a great opening and a clear renaissance in the country, .

The National Investment Commission demanded Monday that US companies enter the Iraqi market directly and without intermediaries. 

In a speech at a consultative seminar entitled "Iraq's Path towards Economic Development through Privileges" and attended by the US consul in Basra at the headquarters of the Authority and attended by "Al-Ghad Press", the Vice-President of the Commission, Salar Mohammad Amin, thanked the US Embassy for this meeting and given the opportunity to invest in Iraq "Noting that" the Iraqi market is open to support the private sector and bring investors, especially after 2004 and after the civil war. "



"We have to open the door to the economy and investment to foreign companies," he said, noting that "after the victory of Iraq on a supporter and we support the liberated areas." 

He added that "the global foreign companies have the desire to enter the Iraqi market within the global brands, including international restaurants," calling "the US side to be entry into the Iraqi market and their companies without intermediaries and cooperate directly with the private sector,"  

noting that "the Iraqi market is strong and the Commission Ready to communicate and provide the necessary support for companies, "pointing out that" the US side provided all facilities to enter the trademarks to Iraq. "
