The head of the UNESCO office in Iraq, Rory Robertshau, said Wednesday that the Iraqi market needs investment and new legislation.
 
"Investment, skills and economic growth if we are to develop and enter into society, there is smart investment," he said at a news conference to assess the labor market and skills analysis in Iraq. The head of the statistics department of the Ministry of Planning Zia Awad Kazem said on Wednesday that the ministry's field survey came at the request of the labor market to provide young people with skills. 

In a press conference held by the ministry in cooperation with the European Union and UNESCO in Iraq to assess the labor market and skills analysis, Kazem said, "The survey conducted by the ministry calls for improving the quality of education in Iraq and determining the demand of the labor market. Projects and contribute to the implementation of the national plan, "noting that" the survey included eight provinces and seven economic sectors and 27 sub-sectors and adopted the results of numbering and inventory for 2009. "



The sectors included in the survey were the Ministry of Agriculture, 160 establishments, the industrial sector included 876 establishments, the construction sector 156 establishments, the information technology sector 114 establishments, transport and storage 153 establishments, hospitality and services 411 economic establishments. On the provinces included Erbil 280 economic establishments, Sulaymaniyah 464 economic establishments, Kirkuk 96, Diyala 162, Baghdad 446, the Governor of Wasit 97, Najaf 243, and Basra 222 economic establishments.

"The number of workers in the establishment was mostly male, especially in Kirkuk, as for representation of agriculture was in Sulaymaniyah highest representation and in Kirkuk the lowest proportion, while the industrial sector was Baghdad, the highest proportion and the lowest proportion, while in construction was Basra, The highest in Diyala was the least, and we did not see in Kirkuk any activity in the field of construction, "pointing out that" trade is a total and one of Baghdad was the highest and lowest percentage Kirkuk, all indicators indicate that Kirkuk is witnessing a major decline, especially in the survey phase in 2017. "The success of the labor market is focused on the reform of vocational and technical education," the deputy EU ambassador to Iraq, Thomas Reis Ortega, said Wednesday. The Iraqi government last week signed an important financial agreement to increase employment opportunities for young people.

Undersecretary of the Ministry of Planning, Qassim Attiyah, said Wednesday that the ministry conducted a comprehensive survey of eight provinces, including the Kurdistan region, indicating that the survey included the Iraqi labor market and skills. 

"Iraq, in cooperation with UNESCO, completed the survey of the labor market in eight provinces and seven economic activities and the focus was on 27 sub-economic activities," he said, adding that "the survey included five thousand establishments, which is the first survey of its kind for the labor market by Comprehensiveness ".



"After conducting the field survey in cooperation with UNESCO, it is more clear to develop development plans," he said, noting that "the results of the survey requires work on development policies aimed at creating a balance between the needs of the labor market and the outputs of education."
