Transport Minister Abdullah Loibi on Wednesday discussed with the Director-General of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), Alexander de Goniak, the question of restoring Iraq's membership in the Union.
A statement from the Ministry of Transport (Mawazine News) said: "Luaibi met with the Director-General of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), Alexander de Goniak, on the sidelines of the 81st transport meeting in Geneva."
He added, "During the meeting, they discussed ways of joint cooperation and the return of the IATA consultants and enable Iraqi Airways to regain its full membership in the Union by obtaining the EASA certificate (safe operation of aircraft), which is the gateway to the return of Iraqi Airways to the international incubator and taking its leading position in the field. International air transport commensurate with its history and its decades-long lifespan. "
"The meeting reflected the level of cooperation between the Ministry of Transport and this civil aviation federation and the high interest in the implementation of the return of consultants, which will help in the return of the full membership of the IATA and organize our work in accordance with international standards."
He noted that "Iraqi Airways will use the advisory wing of the IATA to implement several development projects, whether in their facilities or operating systems."
He called for "strengthening cooperation between the two sides, especially with regard to the technical and operational aspects and benefiting from the expertise of the International Federation in supporting Iraqi Airways to meet the requirements of the inspection program for aircraft."
For his part, President of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) expressed his "admiration for the deliberate and careful steps being taken by the Ministry of Transport towards Iraqi Airways in various administrative and technical sectors," noting that "(IATA) has the mechanism to contribute to solve most of the problems and provide Technical assistance, if required, and provide practical advice from the experience gained by long experience in serving the world's passengers in all matters related to the systems that serve the passengers.
