A seminar on "Government Finance Statistics" organized by the Institute for Economic Policy in the Arab Monetary Fund (AMF) in cooperation with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Center for Economics and Finance in the Middle East opened on Tuesday, February 3-14, 2019.  

The course covers a number of important topics, such as an overview of the GFSM 2014 system, as well as practical aspects of data preparation. The course covers basic concepts and accounting principles and detailed classifications in the context of a new methodology that has been harmonized with the SNA. The course also covers the coverage and accounting rules of the GFS framework (including accrual accounting), valuation, classification, public debt, general budget, sources and methods used in the preparation of statistics.

On this occasion, Dr. Abdulrahman bin Abdullah Al Humaidi, Director General and Chairman of the Fund, said:

I would like to welcome you all at the beginning of the training course on "Government Finance Statistics" organized by the Institute for Economic Policy in the Arab Monetary Fund in cooperation with the International Monetary Fund for the Economy and Finance in the Middle East, hoping that the session will enrich your information on this important topic.

 

Dear Sisters and Brothers

It is clear to you how accurate and correct data are needed and the government's financial data in particular to analyze the financial policy and identify its effects on the overall economic activity through its impact on growth, unemployment, inflation, public debt and the balance of payments. Hence, the importance of government finance statistics as an essential element in the analysis of public finances, and has a crucial role in the development of sound financial programs and monitoring their implementation, and in the control of economic policies.

 

Dear Sisters and Brothers

In view of the rapid developments in the financial analysis as a result of the increasing complexity of the formulation and performance evaluation of the Government's fiscal policy, the Arab Monetary Fund, in cooperation with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), is continuously presenting the GFS cycle as it deals with the methods of collecting, preparing and presenting fiscal statistics consistent with The purposes of economic analysis and the design of economic and financial policies and the follow-up requirements of these policies, in accordance with the concepts adopted in the IMF's GFSM 2014.

In this regard, your session covers a number of important topics, such as an overview of the GFSM 2014 system, as well as practical aspects of data preparation. The course covers basic concepts and accounting principles and detailed classifications in the context of a new methodology that has been harmonized with the SNA. The course also covers the coverage and accounting rules of the GFS framework (including accrual accounting), valuation, classification, public debt, general budget, sources and methods used in the preparation of statistics.

The course topics are presented through lectures, applied workshops and case studies aimed at refining knowledge and providing new knowledge and guidance that will benefit you in your work.
