MP Alia Nassif called on President Barham Saleh to intervene and protect the national industry from what she described as the disaster that is being exposed to it, which is exempting hundreds of items from imported goods from customs duties.
Nassif said in a statement received by "Economy News", that all countries of the world are charging customs as the simplest things to enter, so that some countries charge fees on personal mobile phone if the guest stays on the ground more than four months and if not paid the amount stops his phone line , While Iraq is open to everyone without fees or expense, and then complain the government of the budget deficit and resort to external loans.
Nassif explained that one of the most important reasons for the "destruction" of national industry and its inability to compete with imported goods in terms of prices is not to impose customs duties on the importer, similar to the disaster of exempting Jordan from customs duties on 371 articles mostly made in Iraq, as well as potatoes, tomatoes, eggs and chicken .
"Will the government is satisfied with the collapse of the national industry and dumping the Iraqi market imported goods exempted from customs duties on the national product account? Is it not the duty of the national product protection and seek to revitalize national industry and strengthen the Iraqi economy rather than contributing to its destruction?
And stressed" the need for the President 's intervention to protect The national product and stop the confusion in the exemption of imported goods from customs duties and work as far as possible to save the national industry and support the domestic product through the use of committees of economists and the development of appropriate plans in this regard.
