Britain will provide more than 35 million pounds to Iraq to help rebuild hospitals, schools and power plants destroyed in the fighting against Da'ash, the Middle East minister said on Tuesday.
Alistair announced that after his visit to Iraq, where Britain became the first donor within the newly created international fund to help the country stand on its feet again, the newspaper The Independent reported in a report.
"Britain is planning to allocate 16 million pounds to help rebuild homes and neighborhoods destroyed during the fighting, 6.9 million pounds for reconstruction of infrastructure and 10 million pounds to cover humanitarian aid," he said.
"He hopes that these funds will allow some of the 1.8 million people now displaced in Iraq to return to their homes and resume their lives, part of their commitment to help Christians in the country," he said.
"The funds will also be used to boost Iraq's economic potential, make it more business-friendly, generate jobs and enhance the potential for future trade with Britain and other countries," the DFID said. Ending / 25 z
