[ltr]With the participation of Iraq, Jordan and Lebanon, the World Bank Group, in collaboration with the Government of Canada, held the first 'High Level' Conference on Women's Economic Empowerment in the Mashreq.[/ltr]
[ltr]The idea of convening the conference was the result of the concerns of governments, the private sector, civil society, the academic community, international organizations, multilateral institutions and donors of the low level of women's economic participation in the Mashreq, especially in Iraq, Jordan and Lebanon.[/ltr]
[ltr]The Government of Iraq, for its part, presented its vision of increasing the participation rate of women in the labor force by 5% over the next five years, noting that it will commit, inter alia, to enhancing social, legislative and administrative frameworks; integrating gender into policies and budgets; Gender-related reports and strengthening the capacity of public administrations; raising awareness among public and private sector employees and society as a whole on the importance of gender equality; increasing the number of female-run SMEs through access Li financing and simplification of relevant procedures; and to reduce the gender gap in education in order to build human capital.[/ltr]
[ltr]Following the efforts made by the participants in the conference held in Beirut, the result was a decision by the Canadian government to donate $ 20 million to empower women in Iraq, Jordan and Lebanon. (18,862,929 people and 49% of the total population, according to the latest survey by the Central Bureau of Statistics of the Ministry of Planning) does not exceed $ 6.6 million, or about $ 0.37 per female in Iraq.[/ltr]
